When my best friend and I meet for coffee, it is quite predictable what we will order: a long black (both of us), sausage roll for her and something sweet for me. Most of the time, sausage roll will not be as good as the homemade one (see the recipe below) and the sweet snack would be spoiled by too much sugar in it. Yet, we still order it, as we both like our choices. My best friend and I are very different, yet we have so much in common. Despite being brought up in the different parts of the world, living a very different life, facing unique challenges–we always find something to talk about and share with passion. Our conversations start with talking about food and cooking. However, no matter what we talk about, we spend most of the time talking about God. It always fascinates me that there is always something new to discover, to question and to understand or argue about its meaning in our faith. Often, we cannot come into simple answers to our questions, or we find more questions than answers, but we enjoy the process of discussion, opportunity to exchange our thoughts, ideas or struggles and doubts. Often our talks are non- conclusive, but the answers and insights somehow come at different, quite unexpected ways. God gives His answers whenever and however He wants. In the Acts of the Apostles 12:27 we read: That they should seek God, hoping they might feel their way toward him and find him. God is close to each one of us. He will allow us to find Him in most ordinary ways. I often think about it and thank Him for His gentle accompaniment. It makes me smile to think of God, who joins human conversations. I believe he does not mind being invited to the talk over the coffee and sweet or savoury snack.
