Last weekend was my turn to cook. My turn, because luckily for us, in the community, we take turns to cook. It is much easier than being a mother who needs to think about what’s for dinner every single day of the year. For us, it is not as intense. Last Sunday I made a simple dish: pork mince balls + veggies and potatoes. Those who ate it seemed to enjoy it. As usual, sisters asked: “What’s the name of the dish?” It really doesn’t have a name, but why not to make it up, so I said: Meatballs ala Grace’s mum. And they were. Somehow, this recipe reminded me about my growing up in Poland and the way I remember my mum making a similar dish. It is very simple, but tasty and satisfying. It is amazing how deep are the memories of our life: both positive and negative. For me this cooking brought memories of simplicity of life when I was growing up and realisation my world, which was then stress-free was not the same for my parents who worked hard to make a living, to provide my sister and I and to make us happy. Those memories lead me to gratefulness for my parents for everything they did for us.

Don't forget to visit the recipe page for Pork Meatballs.
