What happens when the European person tries to cook Asian dish? There is a lot of browsing, searching, researching, and…. asking the experts!
Some time ago I made a dish using hokkien noodles and pork rashers. After receiving all possible advice, instructions, and a wonderful mix of all sauces from my “Asian cooking MasterChef” friend, I got into it. The process was not too complicated but required some time for chopping and preparing all ingredients. My next challenge was to make sure that the ingredients are added to the pan in a right order–to prevent noodles becoming soggy and to keep freshness and crunchiness of some of the other elements. The sisters in the house seemed to the dish a lot and willingly went for seconds. I also took a sample to my friend to get a good critique and learn the way. She gave me “10 out of 10” score which made my day. The final product was a success. Trying something new is a process. It requires coming out of your comfort zone, listening to the advice of those who are more skilled and… experimenting. Try something new every day. Despite of the final product, you will be richer by your new experience.
